Dear Parents,
Welcome to Term 3, I hope your break was enjoyable and restful. I would like to welcome Lyn Jo, a new student to 6H.
Term 3 will be productive and exciting term as students will be studying the topic Space, finalising a website and producing a play based on Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes.
Please note there will be a slight change in the program this semester, as Mrs. Simone Champion will be back on class on Fridays. This will not impact on students learning as I will be responsible for the body of their learning. Friday is our sports/ music/ homework etc. day.
Below is a brief summary of what will be taking place in 6H this term.
English
Literacy groups are held on Monday to Thursday between 9.10am – 10.15am. Stage 3 students are divided across three groups according to individual needs.
Students will also be participating in class debating tournament. They will learn aspects of formal debating, be divided into groups and prepare an argument to justify a topic. Time will be allocated during class to collate information in teams; however individual speeches will be assigned through homework. The aim of this is to improve student confidence and to build on public speaking skills.
Maths
Maths groups are held Monday to Thursday between 10.15am – 11.10am. This term students will be working towards outcomes in the Measurement, Space and Geometry, and Data strand.
Science
In Science 6H will be focusing on Space. Students will be gaining a greater understanding of the following aspects in Space:
- Properties of Planets
- Planets in Orbit
- Technological Innovations e.g. Rockets, satellites and telescopes
This term students will also have a project as part of their homework. In week 4 the project task will be sent home.
PDHPE
In class we will also be teaching strategies to enhance personal safety choices through participation in a child protection unit. Fitness will cease on Tuesdays as students have ample opportunity for maintaining fitness levels through PSSA training sessions and sports on Fridays.
Library
Library will continue to be on Wednesdays after scripture. Please ensure students remember their library books!
Homework
As in previous terms homework will continue to be sent home on Monday and is due on Friday for marking. At times circumstances arise that may hinder students from completing their homework. If this is the case please provide a note.
Stationary
Could you please ensure your child has all the following items in their pencil case:
- Pens and pencils
- Coloured pencils
- Glue and scissors
- Ruler
- Sharpener, eraser, highlighter
- A geometry set
- USB stick
Absences
Please be sure to send a note for full day and partial absences immediately on return to school. Also any extended absences for holidays whereby your child will be away at least 15 school days needs to be handed in well before leaving. SIPPS needs to seek permission from the Department of Education to grant exemptions from school. This became a new legal requirement at the beginning of 2007.
Should there be any concerns or queries please do not hesitate to contact me.
Regards,
Rana Haidar
