3P Newsletter Semester 2 Term 3
Dear Parents/Guardians
Welcome back to another busy and exciting term. I hope that you have all enjoyed a happy and restful holiday and are ready for the beginning of another great term! We welcome our new students Jimmy Kim and Ellie Lim who are adapting well to there new school environment and fitting in with the other students in class 3P.
Reading
Reading groups will be held on Monday- Thursday from 9:20 to 10:10. If you are willing and able your time would be greatly appreciated.
Spelling
There will be different lists for each spelling group including extension words. Our weekly plan for spelling will be:
Monday- looking at spelling rules and participating in a Pre-test;
Friday- Spelling Dictation which tests their knowledge of words learnt during the week through spelling games.
Talking and Listening
Students will be learning how to debate as a part of their English program and the skills involved in debating. This will be an assessment of their Talking and Listening abilities throughout the term.
Maths
In maths groups we will be covering concepts in all of the strands of mathematics including number, space and geometry, measurement and patterns and algebra. Maths groups will provide opportunities for hands on learning, cooperative group work and problem solving.
HSIE
This term we will be studying a unit called ‘Mapping Australia’. As part of the unit students will be learning the different States, Territories and Capital Cities also the River Systems and Major Landmarks of our beautiful Country. It should be an exciting unit with lots of opportunities for hands-on learning.
Please make sure your children have this equipment!
Personal Supplies
Please ensure your child has the following items clearly labelled with their name:
30cm ruler (not bendy please)
coloured pencils
2 standard HB pencils
box of tissues
2 white erasers
small scissors
1 glue stick
barrel sharpener
textas – small selection for outlining published work
a regular pencil case
pocket dictionary (small sized specifically for primary students please)
art shirt
A4 Display Folder for homework sheets
1 sheet of cardboard for art work
Please keep novelty versions of these items at home as they can be a distraction.
Children will need to inform you when essentials run low so that they can be replaced promptly.
PLEASE NOTE: NO white out should be brought to school. It is a Department of Education rule that white out is banned.
Absences
Please be aware that the DET has very strict procedures about absences. ALL absences need to be followed up with a written explanation (i.e. sickness or leave). Extended absences of 3 weeks or more need DET approval and should be applied for well in advance of the proposed leave period. This will be further discussed at our Parent Information evening.
Punctuality
Despite the cold mornings I encourage you to have your child at school by 9:10am. Late arrivals need to be recorded at the office before joining the class. Children who are late can be significantly disadvantaged when activities have been explained and expectations are set. It is also very unsettling for the rest of the class.
Uniform
We are lucky at S.I.P.P.S to have a wonderful school uniform so please remember to adhere to school rules and wear your full school uniform everyday. We are very understanding at our school, so if there is a reason for not having your school uniform all we ask for is a note explaining the reason.
Thank you for the continued support around the school and remember if you have any problems or concerns do not hesitate to make an appointment with me.
Kind Regards
