Term 4 Newsletter
Dear Parents,
Welcome to Term 4! We look forward to having our last term with the children. It will be a short but busy term.
Here is an outline for the plan for Term 4.
Reading
Reading groups will be held on Monday- Thursday from 9:20 to 10:10. If you are willing and able your time would be greatly appreciated.
Spelling
Students will be using a spelling text book which will be used in class. There will be different lists for each spelling group including extension words. Our weekly plan for spelling will be:
Monday- looking at work families and spelling rules;
Tuesday-Thursday- spelling games;
Friday- test.
Talking and Listening
Each child has a set news day each week. Children are expected to speak in front of the class for 2 mins and answer simple questions about their news. This term we would like the children to prepare palm cards with points. This will help develop their public speaking skills in order to prepare them for Year 3.
Maths
In maths groups we will be covering concepts in all of the strands of mathematics including number, space and geometry, measurement and patterns and algebra. Maths groups will provide opportunities for hands on learning, cooperative group work and problem solving. Maths groups have been formed across the grade to cater for the varying needs of the children.
Science
This term we will be studying a unit called ‘The Weather’. We will be charting the weather each day as well as looking at weather patterns and temperature.
HSIE
In HSIE this term we will be studying a unit called ‘Celebrations’. During the unit we will be looking at different celebrations from around the world. It will be a hands-on unit that will involve art and craft.
PE and Personal Development
This term we will be doing Gym2U on Friday afternoon as part of our sports program (sports uniform). In Personal Development we will be focusing on a unit on friendships.
Library
Library for 2U will be on Thursday and Friday for 2C.
Homework
Homework will begin in week 2. Students will have several home readers sent home for reading practice during the week. Please ensure that the children remember to bring in their green homework folder with their readers, so that they can be changed. Maths Share will be starting in week 2.
School Supplies
There are a few items that would be very useful for the children to have at school. If your child requires new stationery please purchase this as soon as possible.
*A box of tissues.
*A small pencil case with the essential items, including
-Pencils
-Rubber
-Sharpener
-Glue stick
Please be sure to send in notes for full day and partial absences immediately on return to school. Also any extended absences (15 school days or more) needs to be applied for well before leaving. SIPPS needs to seek permission from the Department of Education to grant exemptions from school. This became a new legal requirement at the beginning of 2007.
Don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any concerns or questions. You can phone the office or send a note so that a convenient time for an appointment can be organised.
